Job Title: Advanced Technologist

Location: Texas, USA

Salary: $140k

Job Purpose

The Advanced Technologist, Additive serves as Level 2 support for prototype and production operations involving metal additive manufacturing. This role requires expertise in machines and additive processes to maintain and optimize the machine fleet while contributing to engineering development activities for additively manufactured hardware. By pushing the boundaries of additive manufacturing, this position aims to improve throughput and reduce part costs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and performing preventative maintenance, including laser system calibration, on the additive machine fleet.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving unplanned machine downtime.
  • Handling escalations of machine issues and problem-solving.
  • Identifying improvements and streamlining post-processing steps for additively manufactured hardware.
  • Becoming an expert as newer production machines are introduced.
  • Evaluating machine features and model alternatives to enhance hardware, processes, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams on parameter development to increase print speed, part quality, and performance, while also introducing new materials.
  • Training and developing machine technicians to strengthen team capabilities as print shop operations expand.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned or required for business needs.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Associate’s degree and at least two years of technical experience, or a high school diploma with five years of field service or electrical/mechanical technician experience.
  • Three years of experience working with LPBF (laser powder bed fusion) machines (preferred).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with additive laser printing machines (experience with GE Additive/Concept Laser machines preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and precision to optimize performance.
  • Electrical and mechanical intuition to troubleshoot machine-level issues.
  • Knowledge of optical systems and control.
  • Highly collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system-level problems and manage escalated Level II issues.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions

This position typically operates in a production, assembly, or engineering lab environment.

Physical/Other Requirements

  • Willingness to travel as needed, including visits to engineering providers, hardware suppliers, and company facilities (approximately 10% travel).
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds may be required.
