Field Service Technician — CNC Machinery

Based in Chicago, IL

75% National Travel

Monday–Friday

Full-time

$85,000–$105,000

 

A leading company in the machinery manufacturing industry is seeking a Field Service Technician to support national clients with the installation, repair, and servicing of CNC and sheet metal equipment. Based in Chicago, this is a hands-on role that involves significant travel and customer interaction, making it ideal for someone with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Install and commission CNC machinery and sheet metal equipment at customer sites
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and testing of machines and system components
  • Identify parts needed for replacement and coordinate orders
  • Interpret technical drawings, layouts, and schematics
  • Manage service calls with minimal supervision and clear communication
  • Maintain service records and provide excellent customer support

 

Required Competencies:

 

Mechanical:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems
  • Ability to read mechanical layouts and engineering drawings
  • Skilled in using standard hand tools for machine tool repair

 

Electrical:

  • Basic knowledge of electrical safety procedures
  • Ability to operate a multimeter for testing and diagnosis

 

General:

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Customer-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Effective under pressure and capable of managing time independently
  • Team player with solid verbal communication abilities
  • Comfortable handling travel and the demands of a service-focused role

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • College or university degree, or equivalent technical experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Prior experience with CNC machinery or industrial equipment is strongly preferred
