Job Description

Laser Field Service Technician

As a Laser Field Service Technician, the individual in this role utilizes strong customer communication skills and possesses mechanical and electrical knowledge to address complex technical issues related to machining products. The position involves travel from Monday through Friday, with weekends spent at home. While travel is predominantly regional, the technician may stay in nearby hotels during the workweek. Travel encompasses primarily the United States, with occasional international assignments. Services are provided both on-site at customer facilities and via telephone as circumstances allow. The company emphasizes training for career success in the machinery industry and takes pride in customer retention.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer locations for diagnosing and repairing complex technical problems.
  • Examine machines both mechanically and electrically, performing dismantling and rebuilding as required.
  • Diagnose technical problems and troubleshoot via telephone.
  • Maintain professional and effective communication with customers.
  • Interpret schematics and block diagrams to analyze and troubleshoot problems effectively.
  • Document product problems and resolutions in detail.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in using basic hand tools.
  • Ability to operate a computer with Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Valid driver's license.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Associates or technical degree preferred.
  • Experience with electrical measurement and inspection techniques (voltmeter, oscilloscope, and other measuring equipment).
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical problems (ball screws, bearings, gearing, and various way systems).
  • Experience in mechanical measurement and inspection techniques (indicators, micrometers, gage blocks, and optical comparator; laser interferometer and ball bar experience a plus).
